Let's talk about some facts about metabolic health in America that are both shocking and motivating. Sometimes you need to be reminded about what you're up against to help you recommit to your goals.

Did you know that only about 12% of US adults are deemed metabolically healthy? This means just 1 in 8 people meet all the criteria: normal blood sugar, triglycerides, HDL (“good”) cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference, without relying on any medications. Even individuals who appear “healthy” based on their looks (normal weight, active, etc.) often fail one or more metabolic health tests. This demonstrates that your diet and lifestyle choices are far more important than just appearance.

Most people are eating processed and/or ultra processed foods every single day without even realizing how bad it all actaully is for you. When something is processed, especially heavily processed or “ultra-processed”, many good things are stripped away.

  • Micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) that naturally occur in whole foods. Processing (refining, bleaching, stripping away fiber) removes much of this. Without them, we end up with deficiencies.

  • Fiber, which aids digestion, slows glucose absorption, supports gut health, and helps us feel full. Many processed foods have little to none.

  • Phytonutrients / antioxidant compounds found in whole fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains. These help reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and support immune system function, often absent in ultra‐processed foods.

These processed and ultra processed foods also have a lot of things added in there that are horrible for our health.

  • Added sugars & refined carbohydrates lead to rapid spikes in blood glucose and insulin, contribute to insulin resistance over time.

  • Unhealthy fats, especially trans fats or some saturated fats in fried or packaged foods. These negatively affect cholesterol, inflammation, heart disease risk.

  • Additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, flavor enhancers, artificial ingredients. Many of these exist simply to increase shelf life, improve texture, make foods more palatable, or mimic taste. But some may disrupt gut flora, promote inflammation, or affect metabolic function.

And guess what? All this processed crap is addicting. Let me tell you why you are craving this type of junk.

  • Hyper-palatability: Many processed foods combine sugar, fat, and salt in ways that are made to trigger pleasure centers in the brain. These combinations are more rewarding than many whole foods.

  • Fast, easy reward: Sweet, salty, fatty foods give fast sensations of pleasure (taste, reward) without much effort. That often wins over slower, subtler rewards (like feeling steady energy or good digestion) which come from whole foods and good habits over time.

  • Food texture & formulation: Additives, refined flours, and fat emulsifiers can change texture, mouthfeel, or chewing time so food “melts” easier, is softer, chewier, more immediate in taste, which promotes over eating.

  • Marketing, convenience, and environmental reinforcement: Processed foods are everywhere. They are advertised, convenient, often cheaper, and require less prep. That constant exposure strengthens habits & cravings.

This is your sign to make healthier choices and build better habits. I am offering a free guide and 7 day challenge to give you the chance to learn, build healthy habits, and give your metabolism a healthy reset. Free ebook included for a limited time.
