The holidays are always here before we know it, and suddenly routines, workouts, and nutrition goals can just slip away from many people. Staying balanced isn't about restriction - it's about staying intentional. With a few simple tips, you can still enjoy the holiday season while still caring for body and not putting your goals on the back burner.
Here are a few tips to stay balanced during the holiday season.
1.) Stick to your routine. Be sure to stick to your regular schedule for mealtimes, workouts, and sleep, even on busy days.
2.) Avoid skipping meals. Skipping meals to “make room” for sweets usually backfires. It can lead to low blood sugar and cravings, causing you to overeat later on.
3.) Stay hydrated. Dehydration can increase your blood sugar. To prevent this, be sure to drink plenty. Aim for between 2-3 liters of filtered water per day.
4.) Don't eat sweets by themselves. Instead of eating sweets or carbs on their own, pair them with protein or healthy fat. This slows down digestion and lessens the glucose spike from sugar and carbs.
5.) Practice mindful eating. If you’re going to have a treat, actually sit there and enjoy it! Slow down, tune into your senses, and savor each bite. This simple shift can help you feel more satisfied with less and reduce the urge to overeat.
